Today we will enjoy a leisurely tour to the northern mountains of North Carolina. We’ll arrive at Glendale Springs, North Carolina. We will visit St. Mary’s Church where painter Ben Long painted three frescoes: “Mary Great With Child” in 1974, “John The Baptist” in 1975, and “The Mystery of Faith” in 1977. In the summer of 1980, he painted the frescoe of “The Last Supper” at Holy Trinity Church in West Jefferson, North Carolina. We will travel a short distance where we’ll enjoy a delicious family style lunch at the Shatley Springs Inn and Restaurant. After lunch we will visit the only cheese manufacturer in North Carolina, The Ashe County Cheese, which has been in business since 1930. We’ll be able to watch the cheese being made then select some to take home with us.
